Democrat Nancy Pelosi, the trailblazing first female speaker of the US House of Representatives, says that she will step down from the party leadership when Republicans take control of the chamber in January. "For me, the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect," says the 82-year-old Pelosi, who first became speaker in 2007 and later presided over both impeachments of Donald Trump. "I tore up a manifesto of mistruths" says Nancy Pelosi, after being asked about ripping up the pages of President Trump's State of Union address earlier this week. The Speaker of the US House of Representatives tells reporters "I don't need any lessons from anybody, 'specially President of the United States about dignity." Pelosi was speaking during her weekly news conference, and one day after President Trump was acquitted of impeachment charges. SOUNDBITE
