People respond to a call from opposition figure Yulia Navalnaya to turn up at polling stations at midday Moscow time (0900 GMT) in a form of protest that attempts to overwhelm them. Thousands of people gather in Moscow for a demonstration called by the Russian Communist Party, to protest against the results of the parliamentary elections. The Russian opposition denounced massive fraud in the elections which saw the Kremlin party win a two-thirds super-majority, the end of a tailor-made ballot from which Vladimir Putin's critics had been excluded. Huge crowds of Belarusian protesters flood the capital Minsk, calling on President Alexander Lukashenko to step down and dozens were arrested. Viasna rights groups said at least 150 people had been detained in the capital and other cities. IMAGES
