A member of a British government committee advising on coronavirus vaccinations says during a press conference that most people under 30 should be offered an alternative to the AstraZeneca jab if possible, due to concerns over blood clots. SOUNDBITE
The chief executive of Britain's independent medicines regulator, June Raine, announces that out of 79 cases of blood clots in people having received a first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, 19 people have died, during a press conference over concerns about links between AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine and blood clots. WHO director for regulation and pre-qualification Rogerio Pinto de Sa Gaspar says the risk-benefit balance for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is "still largely positive". The EU's drug regulator, the European Medicines Agency, has said it is still deciding whether the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine causes blood clots, after one top official said there was a clear link. The benefits of AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine outweigh the risks, World Health Organization (WHO) experts have concluded. The statement followed the European Medicines Agency (EMA) giving their green light to the vaccine on Thursday. IMAGES
