EU says Syria requested for quake relief help: commissioner

Description

Syria made an official plea to the EU for help after the deadly earthquake that struck it and Turkey this week, according to the bloc's commissioner for crisis management Janez Lenarcic. Officials and medics said Wednesday that 8,574 people had died in Turkey and 2,662 in Syria from the 7.8 magnitude tremor, bringing the total to 11,236. SOUNDBITE
