The weekly Saturday protests in support of Palestinians returns to the streets of London, with police estimating around 15,000-20,000 in attendance. This comes a day after a US veto blocked a UN Security Council call for a ceasefire. Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip attacked Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking around 240 hostages -- 138 of whom remain in Gaza, Israeli officials say. In response, Israel vowed to destroy Hamas and launched a military offensive in Gaza that has killed at least 17,490 people, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry. London has seen large demonstrations on three successive weekends since Hamas gunmen on October 7 killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, according to Israeli officials. Since then, Israel has relentlessly bombarded the Palestinian territory and sent in ground troops, with the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza saying more than 9,200 people have been killed, two-thirds of them women and children. The UK has been hit by a fresh wave of industrial action, with junior doctors, teachers, BBC journalists, civil servants and transport workers all walking out over pay which unions say has not kept up with the rate of inflation, which remains above 10 percent. The government says pay demands are unaffordable and will only serve to worsen the economic situation. IMAGES
