Strikes and flares are seen over northern Gaza from the Israeli city of Sderot, after Israel and Hamas brushed off international calls to renew an expired truce on Saturday. Resumed air strikes pounded militant targets in Gaza and Palestinian groups fired volleys of rockets the other way, following the end of a truce on Friday that marked the first pause in the fighting since October 7, when Hamas launched its deadly attacks. The attacks killed 1,200 people and saw a further 240 taken hostage by the group, with Israel's response -- a relentless military operation -- killing more than 15,000 in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.
