Rescue crews rush to extinguish the burning wreckage of a car after an Israeli strike targeted and killed a Hamas official in the southern Lebanese city of Saida, according to a Lebanese security source. It is the first strike of its kind in Sidon since the Palestinian militant group launched its October 7 attack on Israel, triggering war in Gaza and prompting its Lebanese ally Hezbollah to begin trading near-daily cross-border fire with the Israeli army in a bid to tie down its troops. British junior hospital doctors resume strike action which will last for five days, just one week before the country's general election in which the state of the publicly funded National Health Service is a major issue. The doctors have been asking for 35 percent "pay restoration" as a starting position amid a cost-of-living crisis.
