The French flag was raised under the Eiffel Tower during a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. On 25 August 1944, at midday, firefighters from the ‘Sarniguet commando’ went to the Eiffel Tower to take down the Nazi flag that had been flying there for four years and replace it with the tricolour.
