Seventy children were still missing following a blaze that destroyed a school dormitory in central Kenya and killed at least 17 young pupils, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says in a statement in Endarasha where the tragedy took place overnight. SOUNDBITE
A fire at a primary school dormitory which killed at least 17 children in central Kenya is an "injury to the republic", interior Minister Kithure Kindiki says in a statement during a visit to the scene where he also offered condolences to families of the victims. Anti-government protestors in the capital's central business district are being quickly dispersed as police fire tear gas, and make arrests, in a show of force.
