US condemns 'unjustified' arrest warrant for Venezuela opposition candidate

Description

The US State Department rejects an arrest warrant issued by a Venezuelan court for opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who claims to have won the country's disputed July presidential election. "The arbitrary and politically motivated action demonstrates the extraordinary lengths to which Nicolas Maduro will go to try and maintain power following his attempt to steal the July 28th presidential election," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters.
