Argentina vice-president Cristina Kirchner leaves her home in Buenos Aires before taking the stand in a trial over alleged corruption, while supporters gather outside her office at Congress. Prosecutors allege she defrauded the state while awarding public works contracts in her political stronghold of Patagonia during her presidency (2007-2015). A convoy, believed to be carrying former South African President Jacob Zuma, leaves his Nkandla home shortly before midnight on 6 July 2021. The JGZuma Foundation released a statement afterwards saying he decided to comply with a court order demanding he hand himself over before midnight. In a historic ruling, the Constitutional Court handed Zuma a 15-month sentence for contempt of court for snubbing anti-graft investigators. Police earlier warned they were prepared to arrest the former president by a midnight deadline on 7 July 2021 to enforce the ruling, unless the top court instructed otherwise. But Zuma decided to make his way to an unnamed prison in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal. IMAGES
European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic leaves post-Brexit trade talks with Michael Gove in London. The UK had imposed a deadline of last week's EU summit for a deal, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was ready to walk away and prepare for a no-deal exit after five decades of EU membership. However, senior minister Michael Gove said on Sunday 18 October 2020 he was still hopeful there would be an agreement, telling TV interviewers the door remained "ajar" if the EU would change its position.
