Saint-Paul de Vence in Provence, France, is really a very special town. It's an old village with a fortified wall around it with some stone structures that date back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and it had fallen apart in recent times, early twentieth century it was quite dilapidated – some of the old buildings were falling down. But it has been fixed up like new. It's amazing, because the art industry has moved in. There are fifty galleries, workshops and studios here, of the highest quality. There is one main lane in the village and we're going to walk you along its entire length from one end to the other and then back again. The visitor enters the town through the vaulted passage of the main gate, and then makes his way by the inner guard, under a tower with a channel for the portcullis, that gate that could drop down to keep out the enemy, finally reaching the inside of the town. Saint-Paul de Vence is quiet and clean, spotless, scrubbed, no hint of graffiti.
