The Nusra Front confirmed on Thursday that a senior commander of the group was killed in an apparent Syrian military airstrike.
United States officials announced on Monday that an airstrike was carried out in an area between Al-Hasakah and Dayr Az Zawr in Syria over the weekend, according to AFP. The U.S. is targeting the Islamic State’s oil-smuggling operations in a bid to cripple the terrorist group by cutting off its main source of revenue.
The French government launched a retaliatory assault on the Islamic State capital in Syria just two days after the terrorist group claimed responsibility for the deadly Paris attacks that killed hundreds last Friday.
U.S. troops have killed Abu Sayyaf, whose role in the ISIS organization was akin to CFO. Abu Sayyaf, originally from Tunisia, oversaw ISIS’s black-market oil and gas operations which funded the terrorist network.
